What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?Homeopathic treatment

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. This condition can also affect the tissues surrounding the joints (muscles, tendons, ligaments) as well as other organs of the body (skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs and muscles).
RA is a chronic condition and it tends to last for many years though there are periods in between when the patient is without any symptom. RA is a progressive condition and over a period of time, it causes joint destruction and functional disability.
Rheumatoid Arthritis in Hands
Causes:
Scientists largely believe that the tendency to develop rheumatoid arthritis may be genetically inherited. It is also suspected that certain infections or factors in the environment might trigger the immune system to attack the body’s own tissues (Autoimmune response), resulting in inflammation. In any case, the autoimmune response causes chronic inflammation of the joints, that later progresses to joint destruction. Stress can act a predisposing factor as well as a trigger to induce acute episodes of the condition.
The disease is three times more common in women as compared to men. It afflicts people of all races equally. The disease can begin at any age, but peak incidence is seen between 40 to 60 years of age.
Rheumatoid Arthritis in Hands Rheumatoid Arthritis in Legs
Symptoms:
The course of RA varies from patient to patient. There are stages when the disease is active and this is called a Flare-up. In between the flare-ups are episodes when the patient is absolutely free from symptoms, such periods are called Remissions.
Common symptoms during the active stage of RA are as follows:

Joint swelling, redness and tenderness
Joint stiffness
Limited range of motion of joints
Deformities of hands and feet (at later stages)
Muscular pains
Fever
Loss of appetite

Usually multiple joints are affected at one time (polyarthritis)
Symmetrical affection of joints is common
Small joints of hands and feet; elbows, ankles are commonly involved
Skin redness or inflammation
Round, painless nodules under the skin
Inflammation of the lung (pleurisy)
Swollen glands
Anemia

Homeopathic treatment:
RA being a constitutional disease that is auto immune in nature, calls for constitutional medication. Homeopathy offers excellent treatment for the cases of RA, especially for those who have not developed joint deformities. The pain control is very effective with homeopathy and this is without any side effects whatsoever. The treatment can also have a role to play in controlling the progress of the condition to some extent and in delaying the onset of complications. Homeopathy is very strongly suggested for all cases of Rheumatoid Arthritis for more detail please visit us at clinic at vitality homeopathy .

Hepatitis and homeopathy Treatment

Definition:
Hepatitis B is a viral infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). This virus is capable of causing life-long infection, liver cirrhosis (scaring), liver failure, liver cancer and death.
Causes:
As mentioned above the cause of Hepatitis B is the virus- HBV. The virus spreads when blood from an infected person enters the body of a non-infected person. This virus enters the blood stream and reaches the liver where it reproduces and releases large numbers of new viruses into the bloodstream. HBV can survive outside the body for at least 7 days and can still be capable of causing infection.
HBV is mainly found in the blood of infected individuals. Saliva, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk also contain the virus but in lower concentrations as compared to the blood. Feces, nasal secretions, sputum, sweat, tears, urine and vomit have not been implicated in the spread of Hepatitis B. Unless they are visibly contaminated with blood, the risk of contracting hepatitis B from these fluids is practically nonexistent. Hepatitis B is not transmitted by casual contact, hugging, by sharing eating utensils, through food or water, etc.

After a person has been exposed to the HBV, the blood test (HBsAg) will become positive on an average within 4 weeks (range 1- 9 weeks). Usually within 15 weeks of onset of the symptoms, this test becomes negative in most individuals (except those who have developed chronic infection).

Risk factors for developing Hepatitis B:

  • Sexual contact with an infected individual
  • Sexual contact with multiple partners
  • Male homosexual contact
  • Intravenous drug abuse (due to sharing of infected needles)
  • Health care workers (due to close contact with infected individuals)
  • Occupational blood exposure
  • Sharing toothbrushes, razors, etc
  • From an infected mother to new-born infant
  • Chronic renal failure patients on Dialysis
  • Tattooing, piercing of skin (ears, lips, navel, etc)
  • Dental procedure
  • Medical procedures (including transfusion of blood or blood products)
  • Staying with a chronic Hepatitis B patient
  • Traveling to countries which have a high prevalence of Hepatitis B
It must be noted that people of any age, sex, race or nationality can be infected by this virus.
Symptoms:
Sometimes a person with HBV infection may not have any symptoms at all. In patients who do develop symptoms, they occur on an average of about 12 weeks (range 9-21 weeks) after exposure to hepatitis B virus. About 70% of the patients develop symptoms of Hepatitis B. The symptoms include:
  • Jaundice: Yellowness of skin and/or sclera (white portion of the eyes)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Nausea with or without vomiting
  • Dark yellow urine
  • Clay colored stools
  • Lethargy, fatigue
  • Body ache, joint pain, etc
About Chronic Hepatitis B infection:
Chronic Hepatitis B means that the body did not get rid of the virus when the patient was first infected with HBV thus leading to long-term HBV infection. The younger the age group at the time of first infection with this virus, the higher is the chance of developing chronic HBV infection. Thus almost 90% of infected infants, about 30% of infected children between 1-5 years of age and only 2- 6% of infected people above 5 years of age will develop chronic infection.
Carriers of Hepatitis B are those individuals who are capable of transmitting the virus to other individuals. Majority of hepatitis B carriers are asymptomatic (displaying no symptoms) whereas only 30% of them show symptoms of the disease.
Diagnosis:
Following are some of the common tests used to diagnose Hepatitis B infection:
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg): It can be detected in high levels in serum during acute or chronic hepatitis. The presence of HBsAg indicates that the person is infectious.
Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (anti-HBs): The body normally produces antibodies to HBsAg as a part of the normal immune response to infection. The presence of anti-HBs is generally interpreted as indicating recovery and immunity from HBV infection. Anti-HBs also develops in a person who has been successfully vaccinated against hepatitis B.
Hepatitis B e Antigen (HBeAg):This is found in the serum during acute and chronic hepatitis B. The presence of Hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg) indicates that the virus is replicating and the infected individual has high levels of HBV.
Hepatitis B e Antibody (anti-HBe): This is produced by the immune system temporarily during acute HBV infection.
Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) This is an antibody to the hepatitis B core antigen. The core antigen is found on virus particles but disappears early in the course of infection. This antibody is produced during and after an acute HBV infection and is usually found in chronic HBV carriers as well as those who have cleared the virus, and usually persists for life.

Homeopathic Treatment:
Homeopathy is known to work to the immunological level, and has proven its efficacy in the treatment of a wide range of viral infections. With homeopathic medicines, the cases of Hepatitis B are better controlled, the process of cirrhosis is well kept under check and symptomatic relief is also obtained very well. Homeopathic treatment can also help in delaying the complications of Hepatitis B (such as cirrhosis and liver cancer) as far as possible. It may also be noted that the treatment for chronic Hepatitis B has to be planned for a longer duration of time. The best part of homeopathic treatment is that the disease is kept under control and general health improved without any kind of side-effects whatsoever.

Homeopathy treatment of headaches and migraine

The preventive role of homeopathy and the treatment of headaches and migraine
At the deepest level, homeopathy is preventive in intent. Homeopathic remedies do not wade in and “zap” offending organisms, leaving the immune system less able to cope than before. Quite the opposite. They nudge the immune system – not only the white cell populations of the body but also the mental and emotional states which keep those populations healthy – into greater responsiveness and readiness so that disease is kept away or prevented from recurring. In fact, homeopaths are trained to look for diseases before they happen. When a homeopath prescribes constitutionally, he or she is prescribing not only for the present ailment but for tendencies which have not yet manifested themselves as medically recognised ailments.
The foetus in the womb can be treated homeopathically to minimise imbalances inherited from the mother and father. Homeopathic treatment of childhood ailments lessens the risk of the latent weaknesses they cause being activated in later life – infants and children, with their newly minted immune systems, respond excellently to homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic immunisation against the graver diseases of childhood is not usually offered unless a child is particularly at risk; most homeopaths prefer to take the route of boosting general resistance to disease.
In adults, prompt homeopathic treatment of minor illnesses can often prevent persistent, and sometimes serious, complaints developing in later life. At all points in the cycle of development, birth, growth and maturity, subtle symptoms of constitutional weakness can be picked up by careful homeopathic analysis and treated before they burgeon into chronic and entrenched disease. The following hypothetical case history shows how a homeopathic physician might approach a case of late-onset asthma.
At nine months old, the future Mrs X develops eczema; the ointment used to treat it leaves her skin very dry. Apart from dry skin and constipation, she is a generally healthy child. At the age of 14, she has a bad fall from a horse. A year later she develops hay fever, which turns into allergic rhinitis (a runny nose all year round). Skin tests show that she is allergic to house dust mites, grasses and horses. Desensitising injections clear up her runny nose but leave her feeling unwell for some time afterwards.
In the early 20s she is underweight and suffers from an almost continuous post nasal drip (catarrh dripping down the back of her throat). In her late 20s she marries and has two children, both full-term, healthy babies. Apart from dry skin, constipation, occasional nosebleeds and irregular periods, she feels reasonably well throughout her 30s. In her early 40s, she loses two people very close to her, her mother and eldest son. Shortly afterwards, she develops asthma.
She consults a homeopathic physician for the first time. High potency Natrum mur is prescribed to help her through the grieving process, and she is advised to cut down on salt and carbohydrates. A month later, the asthma has all but disappeared, but she continues to suffer from dry skin, constipation, and catarrh at the back of her throat; if anything, she reports, her throat feels worse than before; and she feels chilly and irritable, and has had several boils. Hepar sulph is prescribed. This clears up the boils and the catarrh, but the runny nose remains. Allium and Arnica clear up the runny nose; Sulphur clears up the dry skin and the constipation. At this juncture the eczema she had as a very young child reappears. Since there is a family history of tuberculosis and allergies, she is given Tuberculinum; this clears up the eczema. She is then advised about her diet. She continues in good health, visiting the homeopath at infrequent intervals, until the age of 75 when she dies of pneumonia.
The homeopathic treatment involves a peeling away of layers of illness, removing symptoms in the reverse order in which they appeared, each time reaching further back into the chain of cause and effect. Unlike many other modes of “health care” which swing into action once health has broken down, homeopathy is based upon helping the organism to resist breakdown.

Kidney Stones and its homeopthy treatment

What Are Kidney Stones?
Kidney stones, or renal calculi, are solid masses made of crystals. Kidney stones usually originate in your kidneys, but can develop anywhere along your urinary tract. The urinary tract includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
Kidney stones are known to be one of the most painful medical conditions. The causes of kidney stones vary according to the type of stone.
Types of Kidney Stones
Not all kidney stones are made up of the same crystals. The different types of kidney stones include:
Calcium
Calcium stones are the most common. They can be made of calcium oxalate (most common), phosphate, or maleate. Eating fewer oxalate-rich foods can reduce your risk of developing this type of stone. High-oxalate foods include potato chips, peanuts, chocolate, beets, and spinach.
Uric Acid
This type of kidney stone is more common in men than in women. They can occur in people with gout or those going through chemotherapy. This type of stone develops when urine is too acidic. A diet rich in purines can increase urine’s acidic level. Purine is a colorless substance in animal proteins, such as fish, shellfish, and meats.
Struvite
This type of stone is found mostly in women with urinary tract infections. These stones can be large and cause urinary obstruction. These stones are caused by a kidney infection. Treating an underlying infection can prevent the development of struvite stones.
Cystine
Cystine stones are rare. They occur in both men and women who have the genetic disorder cystinuria. With this type of stone, cystine — an acid that occurs naturally in the body — leaks from the kidneys into the urine.
Risk Factors for Kidney Stones
The greatest risk factor for kidney stones is making less than one liter of urine per day. This is why kidney stones are common in premature infants who have kidney problems.
Kidney stones are most likely to occur between the ages of 20 and 40. Different factors can increase your risk of developing a stone. Typically, Caucasians are more likely to have kidney stones than African Americans. Sex also plays a role, with more men than women developing kidney stones, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). A history of kidney stones can increase your risk, as does a family history of kidney stones.
Other risk factors include:
  • dehydration
  • obesity
  • high-protein, salt, or glucose diet
  • hyperparathyroid condition
  • gastric bypass surgery
  • inflammatory bowel diseases that increase calcium absorption
  • taking medications such as diuretics, anti-seizure drugs, and calcium-based antacids
Symptoms and Signs of a Kidney Stone
Kidney stones are known to cause severe pain. Symptoms of kidney stones may not occur until the stone begins to move down the ureters. This severe pain is called renal colic. You may have pain on one side of your back or abdomen. In men, pain may radiate to the groin area. The pain of renal colic comes and goes, but can be intense. People with renal colic tend to be restless.
Other symptoms of kidney stones can include:
  • blood in the urine (red, pink, or brown urine)
  • vomiting
  • nausea
  • discolored or foul-smelling urine
  • chills
  • fever
  • frequent need to urinate
  • urinating small amounts of urine
In the case of a small kidney stone, you may not have any pain or symptoms as the stone passes through your urinary tract.
Why Kidney Stones Can Be a Problem

Stones don’t always stay in the kidney. Sometimes, they pass from the kidney into the ureters. Ureters are small and delicate, and the stones may be too large to pass smoothly down the ureter to the bladder. Passage of stones down the ureter can cause spasms and irritation of the ureters as they pass, which causes blood to appear in the urine.
Sometimes stones block the flow of urine. This is called a urinary obstruction. Urinary obstructions can lead to kidney infection (pyelonephritis) and kidney damage.
Testing for and Diagnosing Kidney Stones
Diagnosis of kidney stones requires a complete health history assessment and a physical exam. Other tests include:
  • blood tests for calcium, phosphorus, uric acid, and electrolytes
  • blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine to assess kidney functioning
  • urinalysis to check for crystals, bacteria, blood, and white cells
  • examination of passed stones to determine type
The following tests can rule out obstruction:
  • abdominal X-rays
  • intravenous pyelogram (IVP)
  • retrograde pyelogram
  • ultrasound of the kidney (this is the preferred study)
  • MRI of the abdomen and kidneys
  • abdominal CT scan
How Kidney Stones Are Treated
Treatment is tailored according to the type of stone. Urine can be strained and stones collected for evaluation. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day increases urine flow. People who are dehydrated or have severe nausea and vomiting may need intravenous fluids.
Homoeopathy treatment
Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The homeopathic medicines are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions. The medicines given below indicate the therapeutic affinity but this is not a complete and definite guide to the treatment of this condition. The symptoms listed against each medicine may not be directly related to this disease because in homeopathy general symptoms and constitutional indications are also taken into account for selecting a remedy. To study any of the following remedies in more detail, please visit our Materia Medica section. None of these medicines should be taken without professional advice.

Hernia & Top Homeopathic Remedies

What is Hernia?
In medical terms, the protrusion of an organ or a part of an organ through an abnormal opening in the wall of the cavity that normally contains it is referred to as Hernia. The main cause of Hernia is the weakness of the abdominal muscles. This can either be congenital or acquired. The congenital weakness of abdominal muscles is present since birth and the acquired muscle weakness results from various factors like surgical incisions, repeated pregnancy, excess fat in abdomen, chronic cough, constipation and even excessive weight lifting. Homeopathic medicines, which are sourced from natural substances and are completely safe with zero side effects, are of great help in curing various types of Hernia.
Types of Hernia
Inguinal Hernia: This is the commonest type of Hernia. It can occur in infants or adults and since the swelling is in the groin, the panic button is pressed quite early. In InguinalHernia, a part of abdominal contents, mainly intestines, protrudes through the inguinal region of the abdominal wall. The inguinal region is present in the groin.
Umbilical Hernia: This Hernia is more common in females than males and also in infants. In Umbilical Hernia, the abdominal contents bulge out from the umbilicus or navel of abdomen.
Femoral Hernia: This Hernia is also more common in females and very uncommon in children. In Femoral Hernia, the abdominal contents protrude through the femoral canal present in the upper inner thigh region.
Obstructed/Incarcerated Hernia: In this type of Hernia, the lumen of intestine (colon) gets obstructed, leading to intestinal obstruction.
Strangulated Hernia: In this type of Hernia, the arterial supply of the contents of Hernia stops along with intestinal obstruction. Femoral Hernia is most liable to get strangulated.
Symptoms of Hernia
The main symptom of Hernia is swelling or formation of a lump. In Inguinal Hernia, the swelling appears in the groin. In Femoral Hernia, the swelling appears in the upper inner thigh region and in Umbilical Hernia, the swelling is apparent around the navel. Swelling is often accompanied by discomfort or a dragging type of pain around the swelling. In case of obstructed or strangulated Hernia, abdominal colic, vomiting, distended abdomen and constipation are the main symptoms.

What is Constipation?Homeopathy treatment

What is Constipation?

Constipation – one of the commonest gastrointestinal problems is a cause of distress for a large number of people globally. Constipation can affect people of all ages though it tends to be common amongst children and the elderly people (above 65 years of age)
A common misbelief that exists amongst people is that if they do not get a bowel movement every day, they are constipated. However, there is nothing like a fixed frequency to judge the normalcy of bowel movements. Three bowel movements a day to three in a week is considered normal and this varies from person to person. So if a person defecates less than 3 times a week, he can be said to be constipated.
Again the consistency of the stools and the amount of straining required for defecation also requires to be considered. Hard, dry stools that are difficult to be passed or that require a lot of straining constitute constipation.
Some other features that arise on account of constipation are:
  • Bloated feeling in the abdomen
  • Sluggishness in general
  • Unsatisfied feeling after passing stools, feeling of incomplete evacuation
  • Rectal fullness needing manual evacuation of stools
Constipation tends to be much more common amongst females as compared to males, the male: female ratio being 1:3. Constipation is very common during pregnancy and after childbirth. Almost 40% of people above the age of 65 years experience chronic constipation.
An occasional bout of constipation is extremely common but if the complaint tends to be very frequent, medical assistance must be sought. Again, if someone experiences sudden and very acute constipation, immediate treatment must be sought to rule out a serious medical illness (bowel obstruction due to a tumor, etc.)
Some symptoms that you must watch out for; report to the doctor at the earliest if you notice any of these:
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Loss of weight
A large number of people with chronic constipation use over-the-counter laxatives and millions of dollars are spent annually to treat this condition. The problem with laxatives is that they provide only temporary relief and tend to be habit forming many times. Homeopathy can provide effective treatment for constipation, one that is safe yet non habit-forming.
Causes of Constipation
Constipation, in most cases, is an outcome of faulty eating habits and lack of exercise. Normally, as the food gets digested, it passes from stomach through the small intestine into the large intestine. Most of the water from the remaining undigested food gets reabsorbed in the large intestine. If the large intestine (colon) absorbs too much of water due to slow movement of the undigested food, the stools that are formed become dry and hard. Additionally, if the movement is slow enough to cause an urge for stool less than thrice a week, it results in constipation.
Some of the common triggers of constipation include:
  • Poor intake of fluids – drinking less of water and other fluids
  • Less fiber in diet
  • Sedentary lifestyle – not much of activity
  • No exercise
  • Ignoring the urge for stools when there is one
  • Change in routine, travelling
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Abuse of laxatives – Laxatives lead to dependence in the long term because the colon begins to rely on the laxatives for a normal bowel movement
  • Medications like certain painkillers, iron supplements, diuretics, antidepressants, etc.
  • Pain in the anal region due to fissure or piles (hemorrhoids) can lead to suppression of the urge for stools later leading to constipation.
  • Hormonal problems like hypothyroidism
  • After an abdominal surgery

In case of constipation in children, the following must be considered:
  • Switching from breast milk to bottle milk or solid meals
  • Toilet training anxiety
  • Ignoring an urge for bowel movement
  • Hirschsprung’s disease (rare condition where the child has a nerve cell defect from birth that affects communication between the brain and bowels)
Some rarer causes of constipation include:
  • Tumor of the bowels
  • Lead poisoning
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Spinal cord injury that has damaged nerves reaching the intestines
Diagnosis of Constipation
Diagnosis of constipation is largely done on the basis of the symptoms given by the patients. The main criteria for diagnosing constipation are that any 2 of the following must be present for a period of 12 weeks or more (whether continuous or not) in the last 12 months:
  • Less than three bowel movements per week
  • Stool that is hard and difficult to pass
  • Straining hard at stools
  • Sensation of incomplete evacuation
  • Sensation of blockage in the anus or rectum
Constipation that is diagnosed on the basis of above symptoms needs further evaluation as to the cause and for the same, the physician may order certain investigations:
  • Barium enema X-ray: X rays are taken after the inner lining of the bowel gets coated with a contrast dye.
  • Sigmoidoscopy: In this test, the lower part of the large intestine (called sigmoid colon) is examined by passing a thin, flexible tube through the anus. The tube has a tiny camera at one end and this is used to visualize the inside of the colon.
  • Colonoscopy: In this test, the entire large intestine (colon) is examined by passing a thin, flexible tube through the anus. The tube has a tiny camera at one end and this is used to visualize the inside of the colon.
  • Serum electrolytes: To check for electrolyte imbalance
  • Thyroid profile: To check for Hypothyroidism
Some other tests that may be done (though not very often) include:
  • Defecography: A test done to evaluate how well the rectal muscles contract and eliminate the stool.
  • Anorectal manometry: This test determines the efficiency of the co-ordination of muscles used to defecate.
  • Colorectal transit study: This test examines how food passes through the colon and looks for signs of intestinal muscle dysfunction.
Homeopathy treatment
Homeopathy has very good scope in the treatment of constipation. Homeopathy practitioners have repeatedly demonstrated that people who were prescribed constitutional remedies experienced significant relief from their constipation and overall improvement in their general health as well.
Homeopathic remedies gently bring the functionality of the bowels back to normal. This helps in regularization of bowel movements as well in the formation of stools of normal consistency. After starting Homeopathy treatment, most patients can reduce their dependence on laxatives, purgatives, cathartics, etc. successfully.
Homoeopathy, being a holistic healing science, takes into consideration not only the physical symptoms of the case but also the psychological aspects while prescribing for the patient. Thus, the patient’s habits, nature, behavior, etc. are all taken into account while prescribing. This helps to treat the problem from the roots rather than simply treating it symptomatically.
During Homeopathy treatment, the cause of the constipation is also taken into account for arriving at the correct remedy.
